Born and raised in Kolkata, India, Samya Sengupta’s journey into photography began alongside his love for trekking, which he pursued avidly across the diverse terrains of the Himalayas for over two decades. His childhood fascination with the natural world evolved into a passion for adventure and exploration.
Becoming a certified scuba diver expanded Samya’s horizons, granting him access to the mesmerizing world beneath the ocean’s surface. With his camera in hand, he delved into the depths, capturing the vibrant hues of coral reefs and the enchanting grace of marine life. Despite his demanding profession as a practicing CA and Insolvency professional, Samya remained committed to his passion for travel and photography. From the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas to the coral reefs of the Andaman Islands, he sought out new challenges and experiences, continuously pushing the boundaries of his perceived limits.
As a Canon EOS Explorer, Samya uses his keen eye and storytelling prowess to shed light on lesser-known corners of the world and the environmental issues they face. His work extends beyond mere photography, as he collaborates with international NGOs like CARE International and UNICEF, using his imagery to advocate for social and environmental causes.
Recognized in esteemed forums such as IPA and TIFA, Samya’s photographs have been featured in campaigns promoting tourism and cultural exchange. Samya’s works have been published in various journals and forums, including Indian Photo Art, 121 clicks, Uttarbanga Sambad, and Banglalive.com. Through his workshops and talks, he shares his experiences, inspiring others to embrace photography as a means of fostering awareness, connection, and environmental stewardship.
